2024 Frank Church Weekend Breakfast

This year’s breakfast was held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at the Boise Centre and kicked off the annual Frank Church weekend. We had an amazing speaker in NFDW Western Regional Director Audrey Dempsey. She spoke about the importance of women, the power and history of the NFDW. Her final words, “every voice, every action, every vote can make a difference,” should resonate with each of us.

This year’s award winner is Karen Bliss of Hailey, who serves as our Region 5 Director. She also is the IDP Legislative District 26 Chair where she is a force to be reckoned with. She has recruited new members to the party, mentored local chairs such as in Jerome; she’s been instrumental in fundraising programs in the
state and in her county, even soliciting local merchants and others to participate in silent auctions to raise money.

This year’s award winner is State Representative Sue Chew of Boise. Sue Chew, a pharmacist, is one of the longest standing members of the House of Representatives. She has served Idaho with great passion and stands up for those who are most vulnerable. She has knocked on doors in her own district and across the state because she values what people think and she loves connecting with people so she can solve problems.

We are proud to announce that this year’s award winner is Jata Ghandi of Idaho Falls. She currently serves as the Idaho Young Democrats Diversity and Inclusion Chair and is a member of the 2024 IDP’s Idaho Affirmative Action Committee. She is a 22-year-old filled with passion and determination, and harbors ambitious aspirations and dreams. She balances being a full-time student at University of Utah in SLC while attending local and regional Democratic Party meetings.

We also held our annual business meeting at the breakfast. We elected Officers and appointed a new Treasurer to finish out the term of retiring Susan Eastlake. We thank her for her service and wish her the best of luck in the future. We selected BJ Swanson of Troy as our New Treasurer, she also serves as the Latah County Treasurer.

Please welcome our newly elected Board Members: Julia Parker of Moscow (Region 2 Director), Colleen Gross of Troy (Region 4 Director), and Gretchen Wissner of Moscow (Secretary). Linda Leeuwrik of Pocatello was re-elected as Region 6 Director. And as this is Women’s History Month, let’s celebrate the Idaho women who made history winning this year’s IDWC awards!
